The new generation Toyota Rav4 Hybrid is already a very fuel efficient hybrid SUV. I test drove the 2019 Rav4 Hybrid and managed 5.8L/100km of fuel efficiency in mostly city driving. A very good number but the new 2021 Rav4 Plug-in Hybrid will be able to drive for up to 39 miles (63 km) on without a drop of fuel.

The Toyota Rav4 Prime will have the same 2.5L 4-cylinder engine as the non-plug-in version. But a more powerful electric motor will power the rear wheels for a total system output of 302 hp. Toyota says that the Rav4 Prime Plug-in will do the 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) sprint in 5.8 seconds which is as fast as some hot hatchbacks.
The Rav4 Prime will come with a 10 year/150,000 mile battery warranty as part of Toyota’s new battery warranty program that will be available on every Toyota 2020 hybrid model. Standard features on the Rav4 Prime will include 18-inch wheels, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, heated seats, and safety features such as collision warning, pedestrian detection, and adaptive cruise control.
The closest competitor to the 2021 Toyota Rav4 Prime is the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and the upcoming 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid. No word at the time of writing this article on pricing for the Rav4 Plug-in Hybrid.
