Auto manufacturers are looking to their past to bring back a bit of excitement to their current vehicle lineup. Ford brought back the Mach 1 name with a modern twist with the Mach-E SUV. Toyota brought back the Supra. And Chevrolet brought back the Blazer nameplate. However Chevy is done yet as they just introduced the 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer at the 2019 LA Auto Show.
The new Trailblazer slots in between the smaller Trax and the bigger Equinox. But it doesn’t take much of its styling cues from either of those crossovers as it looks much more like a smaller version of the Chevy Blazer. It has similar LED daytime running lights at the very top of the bumper, high and low beam lights below, and a large semi-hourglass grille similar to the Blazer. Around back it features similar taillights but with a more pronounced rear hatch.
The interior is not quite as drastic as it is in the Blazer. The gauge cluster has a digital display int he center which is flanked by analog gauges. The center console features the same 8″ infotainment display as found in many other Chevrolet vehicles but with climate controls just below it that are unique to the Chevy Trailblazer. Cargo capacity is rated at 54.4 cu-ft (1,540 L) with the rear seats folded and loading in the back is easy thanks to an available hands-free tailgate.
Under the hood are two options. A 1.2L turbocharged or a 1.3L turbocharged engine will be available for consumers to choose from with the latter producing 155 hp. Both engines will be available with a standard continuously variable transmission but buyers can option for a 9-speed automatic with the 1.3L engine. Front-wheel-drive will also be standard with AWD as an option.
No exact prices are available yet but Chevrolet says that the 2021 Trailblazer will start at under $20,000 USD in the US.
