Maserati, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bentley, Porsche; they’re all sports car makers that have joined the “dark side” and produced an SUV. Now Aston Martin has joined that list with the 2021 DBX. There’s no denying that SUVs sell and in a crowded auto market, you need vehicles that appeal to more people in order to stay in business.
The 2021 Aston Martin DBX will carry Aston Martin’s current design langue with quite a lot of influence from the new Aston Martin Vantage, especially in the back. The front is unmistakably Aston Martin with the trademark grille and the DBX incorporates daytime running lights as fog lamp surrounds, if it had fog lamps. Along the side, the vents draw the eyes in while the flowing and sculpted lines give the 2021 DBX an almost teardrop side profile.
On the inside, the Aston Martin DBX is covered in leather, suede and wood trim. A 10.3-inch touchscreen (from Mercedes-Benz) is the focal point of the dashboard with vents and climate controls just underneath it. The driver instrument panel is fully digital with more Mercedes-Benz buttons on the steering wheel. The cabin is very well lit thanks to a full-glass panoramic roof that is fixed and does not open.
Under the hood is a Mercedes-Benz 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8 that produces 542 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. Power gets sent to an AWD system through a 9-speed automatic transmission. Aston Martin says that the DBX can sprint from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 4.3 seconds and onto a top speed of 181 mph (291 km/h). An impressive feat considering that the 2021 Aston Martin DBX tips the scales at almost 5,000 lbs (2,267 kg).
Aston Martin says that the 2021 DBX will go on sale in the US (and most likely Canada too) in the second half of 2020 and will cost at least $189,900 USD. Start saving up money now.
