News: Range Rover Evoque and Discovery Sport go Hybrid

The British marque is fully embracing the electric future with the addition of two new hybrid models. The new Range Rover Evoque P300e and Land Rover Discovery Sport P300e join the already hybrid Range Rover and Range Rover Sport that were introduced back in 2018.

The Evoque and Discovery Sport were recently redesigned for the 2020 model year (read the 2020 Evoque review here) and one can argue that they are already hybrid models. Both have a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that recaptures some energy during deceleration and employs it when accelerating to reduce overall fuel use.

But the new Evoque and Discovery Sport are now plug in hybrid models with up to 66 km (41 miles) & 62 km (38 miles) of all electric range respectively. The new SUVs will utilize a 15kWh lithium-ion battery located beneath the rear seats to provide power to a 107 hp electric motor that is integrated into the rear axle. Total system output will be 304 hp with the rest of the power being provided by a 1.5L 3-cylinder gasoline engine. A new 8-speed automatic transmission will do the job of shifting gears.

Land Rover estimates the Evoque P300e’s 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) time to be around 6.1 seconds while the bigger Discovery Sport P300e will be just 0.1 seconds slower.

Better yet, the new P300e models will be able to charge from a 32 KW DC charging station. Both models can be charged from flat to 80% in just 30 minutes.

Land Rover is currently taking orders for the new Range Rover Evoque P300e and Land Rover Discovery Sport P300e in Europe but an announcement for North American availability has not yet been made.
