With no major auto shows planned in the near future, auto manufacturers are turning to virtual showrooms to unveil their latest models. Audi has done just that with the official unveil of the 2021 A3 Sedan.
The 2021 Audi A3 Sedan follows the March unveil of the Sportback (wagon) variant. The new A3 sedan is stunning to look at with styling cues that are taken from its bigger brothers like the A6 and A8. LED headlights with unique LED daytime running lights catch the eye. The large honeycomb grille looks like it’s straight off the R8 sports car and the new A3 sedan looks like it has a wider stance due to the flared wheel arches but the dimensions are relatively unchanged form the previous model and is just an optical illusion. Around back, the A3 receives new taillights and it appears that Audi is continuing with the trend of hiding the exhaust pipe as it doesn’t appear to be present in the press pictures.
Inside the 2021 A3, the driver is presented with technology from higher end Audi models. Directly in front is Audi’s virtual cockpit which is now available on the base model as well. The base A3 receives a 10.25″ display while the virtual cockpit plus on higher trims measures at 12.3-inches. The touchscreen to the right measures at 10.1-inches and includes standard Apple CarPlay & Android Auto connectivity along with a new processor that is said to be 10 times faster than the old infotainment system.
Under the hood of the 2021 Audi A3 is a bit of a mystery, at least for the North American market. The European market will receive a pair of 1.5L 3-cylinder engines, one will be gasoline while the other will be accompanied by a 48-Volt mild-hybrid system. The other available engine for the European market will be a 2.0L turbo-diesel engine.
As for the NA market, most likely the new A3 will be available with some sort of 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine to directly compete with the new BMW 2-series and Mercedes-Benz A-class. But we’ll have to wait a while longer to find out.
The 2021 Audi A3 sedan will go on sale in the summer of this year with other markets later in the year. Prices in Europe will start at 27,700 Euro.
