News: Ducati V4 Superleggera Is Coming

by: Mike Ginsca,

Ducati CEO, Claudio Domenicali, has recently confirmed that a Superleggera (light weight) version of the Ducati V4 superbike is in the works. “It will be seen in the new year and it will be very dramatic. It will be a 500 limited edition, it will be quite expensive but it will be very dramatic in terms of what is on the bike. I think it will be surprising.” Domenicali said.

Spy shots from MotorcycleNews.com shows what appears to be the V4 but with a lot of carbon fiber bodywork. Front cowl, fairing, and rear tail are all carbon fiber. The wheels too are made out of carbon fiber and are of the same design as the ones found on the Ducati V4R.

The exhaust is also slightly different with it being fully titanium and mufflers that are similar in style to the Akrapovic mufflers that are available on other Ducati V4 models.

One component that doesn’t appear to be different is the suspension. From the spy shots, it appears that the new Ducati V4 Superleggera uses the same Ohlins forks and rear shock as found on the V4R. Most likely though they have been retuned to take into consideration of the weight loss from the bodywork and other minor components.

Domenicali has not said when the official unveil will be but as only 500 will be made, it will definitely cost a pretty penny. For reference, the last Ducati Panigale 1299 Superleggera cost upwards of $80,000 USD.
