Aston Martin formally announced and unveiled the 2021 Vantage Roadster with the world’s fastest retractable roof mechanism. In just under 7 seconds, the fabric roof can retract at speeds of up to 50 km/h (31 mph) and give your hair a new style thanks to the car’s 306 km/h (190 mph) top speed.
The new soft top Vantage adds 60 kg of weight over the Coupe variant but Aston Martin say that the sprint to 60 mph (96 km/h) gets done in just 3.7 seconds. Slower by just 0.2 seconds from the Coupe variant.
The sub 7 second top is powered by a new “Z-fold” mechanism that is more compact than other soft top mechanisms. As a result, the trunk can accommodate 200 Liters (7.06 cu-ft) of cargo which can comfortably fit your golf clubs.
Power remains the same for the Vantage Roadster as the Vantage Coupe. A Mercedes-Benz sourced twin-turbocharged V8 engine producing 503 hp and 505 lb-ft of torque powers the Aston Martin Vantage. Mated to the engine is a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission.
However for the 2021 Vantage Coupe, a 7-speed manual transmission is available. Previously it was only available on the limited edition AMR Vantage. Aston Martin have not said if the manual transmission will make its way to the new Roadster.
Other changes for the 2021 Aston Martin Vantage include new body colours, different wheel designs, and a more traditional grille design that Aston Martin refer to as the “Vane grille”.
Prices for the 2021 Aston Martin Vantage Roadster will start at $161,000 USD with deliveries scheduled to begin in the summer of 2020.
