At a Glance: 2024 Hyundai Elantra

If you are looking for a new vehicle that will get you from point A to B with no issues, then the 2024 Hyundai Elantra may be a great option. It is an affordable sedan with a decent amount of space and is quite comfortable.

Engine/Transmission

The 2024 Hyundai Elantra has a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine. It produces 147 hp and 132 lb-ft of torque. So, it’s not quick but it’s perfect for daily driving and running errands while being great on gas. You also get the option of a 1.6L engine with the Hybrid and the N Line. The Elantra is rated for 7.3 L/100km on a hwy and 5.7 L/100km in a city. I averaged a combined 7.7 L/100km so not quite as what the combined rating of 6.5 L/100km rating. This of course has to do with your driving style, temperature, etc. It was a cold week when I drove the Elantra with temperatures hitting -10 degrees Celsius. So I had to let the car warm up a bit and defrost the windshield int he mornings hence my higher fuel efficiency rating.

Handling/Performance

The first thing that stuck to me and not in a good way was the gas pedal, it was not responsive as I would like. It is not responsive to your inputs, so you have to really push it to get the car moving. Slightly pushing the gas pedal isn’t going to do anything which I find odd in a vehicle. Steering, however, is quite responsive, which is what makes it somewhat enjoyable to drive. It does not drive like a sports car but still enjoyable. It’s one of those cars that with time you get used to it, while that may not necessarily be a bad thing, it just goes to saying it isn’t all that great either. Nothing that needs time getting used to is great. If you want a better performing Elantra, the N-Line would be the one to choose.

Comfort

When it comes to interior space it ticks the box. It is quite spacious for average sized adults. The seats might feel a bit flat for the bottom, but you’ll only notice on longer road trips. Driving over bumpy roads isn’t so bad as the Elantra is quite a smooth ride.

Interior

Because this is a great starter car in my opinion, it isn’t going to be all that great on the inside. Unfortunately, it has a lot of plastic throughout the cabin. It also has cheap plastic material behind the driver and front passenger seat which could be an issue for taller adults sitting behind. This may cause some discomfort if your knees touch the front seats. Although the Elantra does have 2 extra inches in the rear compared to the last generation, it is something to keep in mind if you’re above average height. One thing I really liked was the layout of the controls as it is directed towards the driver as it should be. It is equipped with an 8.0-inch touchscreen which is straightforward to use, no issues and simple.

Exterior

Although it may seem like a basic car, it is quite stylish. I do like the design as it is eye catching. It has quite a lot of standard features for its price, which is a great thing. It is equipped with heated side mirrors, rearview camera, and a lot of safety features.

Pros/Cons

The starting price of the 2024 Hyundai Elantra Essential is $ 21,999 CAD ($18,999 USD) while the N-Line is $31,099 CAD which is still quite affordable. The price alone is enough to catch one’s attention. It has great cabin and trunk space, it is comfortable for daily commutes, drives great and most importantly it is great on gas. It also has a very stylish exterior which can be catchy and worth checking out. My only complaint would be the odd gas pedal and barely any power. Overtaking a car is something you need to think twice as it may struggle. I think this is a great car for someone looking to buy a vehicle that will not give you any issues for the next 5 years. In terms of reliability, well let’s just say I’d rather choose a Toyota or Honda. But that is just my opinion, I do still think it is a great sedan.
