News: The Black Series is Back! Meet the 2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT Black

As Jeremy Clarkson famously said, the Black Series are to AMG what Skunkworks is to Lockheed-Martin. The Black Series of cars turn the volume up to 11 on already hot version of Mercedes-Benz AMG cars. After a brief hiatus, the Black Series badge found its way back onto an AMG model in the form of the 2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT Black Series.

The new AMG GT Black is powered by the familiar 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8 but it now produces 720 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. This was achieved through numerous changes to the engine including a flat-plane crankshaft, new camshafts, new exhaust manifolds, and anti-friction bearings in the turbochargers to improve throttle response. The redline has been raised form 7,000 rpms to 7,200 rpms and the turbochargers can deliver 24.6 psi of boost pressure. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission that is mounted in the rear for improved weight distribution.

The exterior design takes much inspiration and ideas learned from the GT3 and GT4 AMG GT programs hence why this Black Series looks like a race car. Carbon fiber is used throughout the bodywork including the hood, roof, front splitter, and rear wing. Speaking of the rear wing, it has an integrated adjustable flap that creates 4 different modes: AMG Dynamics Basic, Advanced, Pro, or Master. At slower speeds, the flap can extend to produce more downforce while at higher speeds, it can lower to improve the car’s top speed.

This 2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT Black Series is said to hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.1 seconds with a top speed of 202 mph (325 km/h). No word on price but expect it to be well within the 6-figure range. Deliveries are expected to start in early 2021.
