Do not adjust your screens. The upcoming BMW M3 will be available, for the first time, as a station wagon. In a recent Instagram post, the BMW M account unveiled this image of a station wagon (or Touring as it will officially be known) of the upcoming M3 with the caption “Mic Drop”.
The BMW M3 Touring will likely have the same powertrain as the upcoming sedan version with a 3.0L turbocharged inline-6 cylinder engine producing around 480 hp. A “Competition” variant will produce somewhere in the vicinity of 510 hp. The sedan is said to retain a 6-speed manual but it is unclear if this Touring model will be available with it or if it will only be available with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
And now for the bad news. It will most likely not be available in North America. While the USA is a massive market for BMW, wagons are just not in style with Americans like how crossovers and SUVs are. The Canadian auto market follows the American auto market very closely so if the USA won’t get this new model, it is a pretty safe assumption that we Canadians won’t get it either.
So far the only fast wagons that are available are the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG and the upcoming Audi RS6 Avant. There are a few less potent wagons such as the Mercedes-Benz C43 AMG and the Volvo V60 T8 Polestar Engineered but a BMW M wagon would be a nice addition to the North American wagon battle.
