News: Ferrari Roma Makes Its Debut

by: Mike Ginsca,

Swooping lines and elegant curves is one way to describe Ferrari’s new 2+2 grand tourer, the Roma. The Ferrari Roma is a front-engined coupe that is based on the Portofino underpinnings and is one of five new models released this year by the legendary automaker.

“With its distinctive flair and style, the car is a contemporary representation of the carefree, pleasurable way of life that characterized Rome in the 1950s and ’60s,” Ferrari said in its announcement. The design of the new Ferrari Roma has some 1950s and ’60s about it with smooth flowing and uninterrupted curves from the front to the back. The front features a slim mesh grille with unique headlamps and fog lamps integrated in the lower half of the fascia that spans the width of the car. The rear features four simple yet elegant taillights accompanied by four exhaust tips.

Powering the Roma in the front is a 3.9L turbocharged V8 that is said to produce 612 horsepower and 561 lb-ft of torque. This should be enough to propel the Ferrari Roma to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and on to a top speed of “in excess of 199 mph” as Ferrari stated.

The interior of the Roma is divided in the center by a floating center console with a gear selector shaped to look like a gated manual gearbox. The driver has a full digital display behind the steering wheel while the passenger has a smaller display in front of them for some controls and information display.

No word yet on the pricing or availability of the all-new Ferrari Roma.
