News: 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali to Receive Super Cruise

Super Cruise hands-free driving technology – which first appeared on Cadillac models – will now be available to other brands under the GM umbrella. Late model 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali pickup trucks will be the first to feature this technology outside of Cadillac models. The 2022 Sierra will receive the latest version of Super Cruise along with the ability to be used while towing a trailer.

Super Cruise

Super Cruise is a semi-autonomous driving system that allows for hands-free driving on over 200,000 miles of highways & compatible roads throughout the USA & Canada. The system utilizes a driver attention system & LiDAR map data along with cameras, sensors, and GPS to enable the driver to let go of the steering wheel while driving on certain compatible roads. But if the driver is not paying attention to the road for a period of time that is deemed to be too long by the system, then the steering wheel light bar will prompt the driver to return their attention to the road.

No word yet on the price of Super Cruise for the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali.

The teaser image that accompanied this announcement also reveals the full digital instrument cluster of the 2022 GMC Sierra Denali. The GMC Sierra & Chevrolet Silverado twin are due for a mid-cycle update which should include minor exterior changes and a major interior redesign. The current Sierra & Silverado interior has been criticized for being too bland and dated looking.
