News: 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban Unveiled

The Chevrolet Tahoe and its longer brother, the Suburban, are among a few of remaining full-size SUVs based on truck platforms. As a result, they offer a large amount of space, usually V8 engines, and good payload and towing capabilities. With the recent redesign of the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, the Chevy Tahoe was due for an update as well since it shares a lot of the underpinnings.

The 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban take some of the exterior styling from their Silverado sibling. Most of which is evident in the daytime running lights, LED headlamps, and grille design. The side profile features a few more curves that lead the eye towards the rear where new standard LED taillights catch the eye. Quad exhaust tips also accent the rear but only on the Premier and High Country trim levels with a gasoline engine.

Under the hood are three engine choices. The 5.3L V8 and 6.2L V8 engines carryover from the previous generation. They produce 355hp and 420hp respectively. However, for those that want a bit more fuel efficiency and driving range, the V8s are joined by the new 3.0L inline-6 Duramax turbodiesel engine that was just recently made available on the Silverado 1500. The 3.0L produces 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque and all engines will be mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Inside, the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe & Suburban receive a much needed update. New interior styling could possibly foreshadow the upcoming styling update of the current generation Chevrolet Silverado 1500 but that has yet to be seen. In the 2021 Suburban and Tahoe, the column mounted gear selector is gone and is replaced by a vertically mounted button selector similar to the one found in the GMC Terrain. A 10″ infotainment screen is standard across all trim levels as are Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. But that is not the only large screen as the Suburban and Tahoe are available with an 8″ driver instrument cluster, a 15″ heads-up display, and rear occupants can enjoy movies on a pair of 12.6″ seat mounted screens.

Passengers will be plenty comfortable inside the 2021 Suburban and Tahoe thanks to a longer wheelbase which allows for more legroom. In addition, road bumps will be absorbed by new air suspension and and all-new independent rear suspension setup.

Safety features found on other current Chevrolet vehicles will be carried over to the new Tahoe and Suburban. Forward collision alert and emergency braking will be standard features. Lane departure warning and blind spot sensors will be available options.

Chevrolet has not announced fuel economy figures, payload, or towing numbers but those should be available closer to the release date sometime in mid 2020.
