At a Glance: 2026 Genesis GV80 Coupe

The 2026 Genesis GV80 Coupe Prestige Black represents the pinnacle of the brand’s “Athletic Elegance” philosophy. It merges the practicality of amid-size SUV with the silhouette of a sporty coupe. As the flagship of the GV80 lineup, the Prestige Black trim adds a layer of sophisticated, darkened aesthetics.

Engine/Transmission

At the heart of the GV80 Coupe is a 3.5L twin-turbocharged V6 engine that is aided by a 48-Volt electric supercharger. This produces 409 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque. The electric supercharger provides nearly instantaneous boost at low RPMs to eliminate turbo lag. Power is delivered through a seamless 8-speed automatic transmission to an advanced all-wheel-drive system.

Despite this powerful engine, the GV80 Coupe can return respectable fuel consumption figures. It’s rated for 14.3 L/100km in a city and 10.5 L/100km on a highway. I managed to average 11.5 L/100km during my time with the SUV.

Handling/Performance

The driving character of the GV80 Coupe is defined by its ability to mask its substantial size with high-tech intervention. It features electronically controlled suspension with road preview which utilizes a front-facing camera to scan the pavement ahead and adjust the damping in real-time for upcoming imperfections. The result is a ride that remains composed and remarkably flat through corners.

For more spirited driving, the inclusion of an Electronic Limited Slip Differential (e-LSD) on the rear axle allows for precise torque vectoring, helping the vehicle tuck into apexes with more agility than the standard GV80 SUV.

Comfort/Interior

Inside, the Prestige Black trim offers an ultra-luxurious environment characterized by its “Harmony of Black” theme. The cabin is anchored by a stunning 27-inch OLED integrated display that houses both the instrument cluster and infotainment system. The materials are top-tier, featuring quilted Nappa leather upholstery, microfiber suede headliners, and genuine carbon fiber or dark metal trim accents exclusive to the Black edition.

While the sloping roofline of the coupe design naturally reduces some rear-seat headroom compared to the standard SUV, Genesis has managed to keep the cabin airy and spacious for four adults. Ride comfort is further enhanced by acoustic laminated glass and active noise cancellation, which effectively isolates the occupants from wind and tire roar.

Exterior

The exterior of the Prestige Black is a masterclass in “murdered-out” factory styling. It replaces nearly all traditional brightwork with gloss black or dark chrome finishes. This includes the massive G-Matrix crest grille, window surrounds, and the model-specific 22-inch dark-finished wheels. The coupe’s roofline tapers elegantly into a double-spoiler design at the rear, giving it a much more muscular, planted stance than its more upright siblings.

Pros/Cons

In the Canadian market, the 2026 Genesis GV80 Coupe Prestige Black AWD carries an all-inclusive price of $108,150. This positioning places it squarely against established European rivals like the BMW X6 and Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe. It’s a compelling alternative for those who find the standard luxury SUV formula too pedestrian. It successfully balances a high-output, technologically advanced powertrain with a cabin that rivals the best in the industry for material quality. While the coupe silhouette sacrifices a marginal amount of utility, the trade-off is a vehicle with significantly more presence and a distinct, darkened personality that stands out in the crowded luxury segment.
