At a Glance: 2025 Genesis GV80 Coupe

Coupe-SUVs are much more common these days than a decade ago. Nearly every luxury brand offers one. The latest to join this trend is Genesis with the 2025 GV80 Coupe.

Engine/Transmission

The 2025 Genesis GV80 Coupe uses a 3.5L twin-turbocharged V6 engine with an 8-speed automatic transmission just like the regular version of the GV80. But in this Coupe version, it produces 409 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque because it comes with a 48-Volt electric supercharger. This provides it a smoother auto start/stop system along with better fuel economy. It is rated for 13.1 L/100km in a city and 10.7 L/100km on a highway. I averaged 12.3 L/100km during my time with the SUV.

Handling/Performance

The last time I drove the Genesis GV80, I really enjoyed it. This GV80 Coupe feels a bit more sporty but without sacrificing comfort. The steering has a great feel albeit a tad on the heavy side for my liking. However, I was most impressed with how smooth the SUV is. It has a quiet cabin, the auto start/stop system is not too intrusive, and the ride is exceptional for this class of vehicle. It’ll probably not keep up with something like the Mercedes-Benz GLE 53 AMG Coupe but it is more entertaining to drive than the GLE 450 Coupe and also has a more luxurious feeling, which is surprising for me to say.

Comfort/Interior

The 2025 Genesis GV80 Coupe has a new 27” OLED screen which seamlessly blends the driver instrumentation and infotainment system. Normally in other vehicles, these are two separate screens. But not in this. Though I’m not a huge fan of screens everywhere, this looks elegant. There are physical controls for the climate temperature and the radio volume while other functions are controlled through a haptic touchscreen.

The materials in this cabin of the GV80 Coupe are real and incorporate soft leather, real carbon fiber, and aluminum. I also found the seats to be really comfortable and they had plenty of adjustments for my 5’10” height. The back seats had enough legroom but predictably, headroom is not as great as the normal SUV version of the GV80. The trunk too offers a little bit less cargo space in this Coupe version when compared to the standard version.

Exterior

The elegant design of the interior continues with the exterior. I like the flowing lines of this Coupe-SUV and it doesn’t look so much like a jelly bean like some other Coupe SUVs. The GV80 Coupe comes standard with 22” wheels that don’t look like as though they’re too big for this SUV.

Pros/Cons

Overall, I really liked my time with the 2025 Genesis GV80 Coupe. It has a comfortable and quiet cabin with pretty good driving dynamics. But of course, it’s not as spacious as the regular GV80 and it doesn’t have a 3rd row either. But for those that want luxury and style, this should be at the top of your list. The 2025 Genesis GV80 Coupe is only available in one trim here in Canada and it’ll cost you $104,000 CAD ($79,950 USD).
