The 2025 Mazda CX-5 Sport Design is a great compact crossover as it is bit more spacious than a sedan but not quite big as bigger SUVs. It is an attractive looking crossover and as you may notice out on the streets, it is quite popular. Although it may be slightly smaller than its competitors in terms of rear space, it does have a sportier drive than its competitors.
Engine/Transmission
The 2025 CX-5 Sport Design is available with a 2.5L Turbo engine paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission that produces 256 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque with premium fuel. It is rated for 10.8 L/100km in a city and 8.7 L/100km on a highway while I averaged10 L/100km with mostly highway driving but that’s also due to my foot being a bit heavy. It is available with all-wheel drive for a sportier experience and for better driving during the winter season.
Handling/Performance
One thing I noticed was that the CX-5 didn’t drive as I expected as it felt like it lagged every time you tried putting your foot down from a stop. I think I was expecting it to drive or feel the way the Mazda3 Sport drives but there was a difference even though both have the exact same engine. While cruising however, it picked up speed easily without much effort. Driving around windy roads is also fun as you won’t feel like it wants to roll over. It is sharp to your steering inputs which provides that feel that you’re in a sporty SUV.
Comfort/Interior
The Mazda CX-5 is a stylish crossover that never gets old. It’s been around for some time now and it continues to be just as popular. It has a great looking interior with soft touch materials and decent space for passengers. There isn’t a whole lot of space for the rear seat passengers, but I think it works just fine for small families. It is equipped with a 10.25-inch display that only works as a touchscreen when connected to Apple Car Play or Android Auto. If not connected to either, then you will have to use the rotary knob which can be annoying for some, but I found it to be simple to use.
Exterior
Just like the interior, it is great looking on the outside. The Sport Design trim is equipped with 19-inch black metallic wheels, LED exterior lighting, signature lighting on front and rear lights, signature wing grille surround with black finish to name a few.
Pros/Cons
The 2025 Mazda CX-5 is a great crossover because it is fun to drive as it has enough power to enjoy the ride. Although it is not as spacious as its competitors, it is more engaging to drive and for some, that would seal the deal. It is also decently efficient on fuel economy as it does have a turbo engine after all. The starting price of the CX-5 Sport Design is $44,700 CAD ($42,730 USD) for the Turbo Signature in the US.
