At a Glance: 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E

Here in Canada the Ford ‘Mustang’ Mach-E is available in 5 trim levels. Notice I quoted Mustang? That’s because most people would not consider it worthy of the name. Now this isn’t because the Mach-E isn’t great, its just that we are all used to a Mustang having a loud engine and not as an EV.

Engine/Transmission

During my week with the Mach-E, I had the Premium trim which has an estimated range of 515 km (320 miles). It has a great range even if you were to decide to go for the Select trim level as it too has a great range of 483 km.  The Premium Mach-E produces 290 hp and 386 lb-ft of torque, so it is quick and could be quicker if you choose the higher trim levels. 0-100 km/h is reached in a little over 5 seconds. It is equipped with a 91 kWh battery and has a dual-motor AWD system.

Handling/Performance

From a stop, the Mach-E can be quite quick and picks up speed easily. It may not feel as quick as a Model Y, but it is quicker than its EV SUV competitors. While driving the Mach-E on mostly highways, I found it to be a bit sporty and agile which made the drive fun. It is available with Blue Cruise which I found worked perfectly. It made the SUV change lanes without any complications and kept the Mach-E from “bouncing” from one end of the lane to the other. Not once did it feel like it pulled from one side or the other compared to other vehicles with similar control. Sporty and comfort is unfortunately not something you can always get at once in a vehicle and this Mach-E is no exception; it is quite firm, and you can notice it while driving over uneven pavement. Going over humps means going extra slow.

Interior

Sitting inside the Mach-E, however, is comfortable so it makes up for that firm ride for those looking for a comfortable ride. It is also quite spacious for the front and back seats and has great cargo space capacity. It has plenty of space in between the two front seats for small items. It is equipped with a 15.5 inch display that works with Sync4.  It is very easy to navigate and although I’m not a big fan of all functions on a screen, I didn’t mind that the climate control was included. It was all laid out nicely on the screen that made it super easy to use even while driving. It is a nice place to be in with quite a few features you get. It comes with ambient lighting, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, panoramic fixed glass roof, 360-degree camera to name a few.

Exterior

Just like the inside, the outside is also great looking. It is equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels, heated power glass, finicky door handles that I still haven’t decided if I like or hate, along with quite a few other features that are unique to the Mach-E. Going back to the door handles, at first, it may seem a bit confusing as how to open it and how to lock it. It is all with a push of a barely visible button on the doors. After a few times of using, however, it becomes easy to use and may not be as finicky. Overall, the body of the Mach-E looks sporty in my opinion but wouldn’t call it a Mustang but let’s leave that at that.

Pros/Cons

The great thing about the Mach-E is that you have about 5-7 trim levels in Canada/US to choose from. Each one is equipped to meet your needs. Whether it be that you are looking for an entry level EV that doesn’t need to be as powerful or as premium-like, maybe you’re looking for a decent amount of range and features but something that won’t break the bank, or maybe you are looking to go all out in power and want something that drives fast and maybe a bit on the adventurous side. The options are there, and you just need to decide. The starting price of a Mach E is $57,690 CAD ($44,605 USD) while the Premium I drove as equipped was priced at $68,790 CAD ($50,780 USD). In my opinion this a great EV SUV that is suitable for small families, it has great cargo capacity, comfortable seats for all passengers, and has a great range of electricity regardless of which trim level you choose.
