Whether you are looking for a basic trim work truck, an off-road truck, or a luxury truck, the F-150 has a trim to meet your needs. The great thing about the F150, is that you can also choose from different powertrains that will suit your needs from a pickup truck. I had the opportunity to drive the 2024 F-150 4×4 King Ranch which is the trim below the top luxury truck.
Engine/Transmission
This 2024 F-150 King Ranch has a 3.5L Powerboost full hybrid V6 engine paired with a 10-speed transmission. It produces 430 hp and 570 lb-ft of torque. Plus the powerboost adds a 7.2 kW onboard generator in case of a power outage or for working in rural area. This truck is rated for 11.4 L/100 km in a city and 10.1 L/100km on a highway while I averaged a combined 11.7 L/100km with mostly highway driving. The F150 King Ranch has a towing capacity of 4,899 kg (10,800 lbs) and payload capacity of 787 kg (1,735 lbs).
Handling/Performance
As I mostly drove on highways, it was a beauty to drive as it is a very comfortable ride. It also has no issues with picking up speed and overtaking other vehicles. I drove over a bit of bumpy roads and it felt bouncy and jittery. The nice thing about pickups is that you feel secure when driving because of how high you sit. Although this may be great when you’re in spacious areas, it is not so great on narrow roads. The F-150 is wide and if you are not used to large vehicles, then it may be a bit intimidating to drive the first few times. Although it can be intimidating, I did like how agile it felt when making turns or driving at slow speeds due to its variable assist power steering. The F-150 is equipped with Blue Cruise which I must say, I preferred it on the Mach-E that I test drove more so than on this F150. Now I’m not sure if it has to do with the size of the vehicle or the highway I was driving on that made it feel a bit jerky, but it did not feel safe to let go of the steering wheel completely because it felt like the F150 pulled to the left and right too much. I would assume, however, that on flat roads and less windy roads, the Blue Cruise would work the best.
Interior
The interior of the 2024 Ford F-150 King Ranch is great, it feels a bit luxurious, but it also has a bit of a work truck feel. When I think of a work truck, I don’t expect it to be all that luxurious as it’s meant to get down and dirty. One cool feature is that the gear shift lever can be folded down so that center arm rest can be flipped over to create a flat surface for a working space area. There are also a couple of small storage spaces around the truck for small items. It is equipped with a 12-inch infotainment display that runs on the Sync4 software. It is very user friendly and simple to use so there are no issues with that. I had the crew cabin which is a 4 door F150 and it’s more than enough space. I won’t even go into detail about measurements because space is plentiful for average size adults and even those above average.
Exterior
Just like with the powertrain and trims, you also have the option of choosing the bed length of the F-150. This King Ranch is available with a 5.5′ or 6.5′ bed length. For the King Ranch, it is equipped as standard with powered mirrors, power deploy running board for individuals who have a harder time getting in and out of a taller vehicle, remote release tailgate, and 20-inch aluminum wheels. I prefer the optional 22″ wheels because of course, the bigger, the better it looks.
Pros/Cons
Although I have only had the chance to drive the F-150 King Ranch among all the other F-150 trims, I would dare to say that it might be the one to get if you’re in the market for a pickup truck. If you need the power but would like to save a bit on gas, the hybrid is the perfect one. If you need passenger space or extra storage space for work materials, this crew cab is the one to get. If you are someone that tows or carries heavy items in your trunk, then the King Ranch is the one to get. It all comes down to what you need, and you can choose accordingly. The starting price of the 2024 F150 King Ranch is $92,790 CAD ($73,945 USD).
