The 2024 Kona EV is a stylish, spacious crossover that is worth looking at. It is comfortable both in the front and back seats and best of all, has a great electric range.
Motor
The Kona EV produces 201hp and 188lb-ft of torque. It has a range of about 420km but of course dependent on where you live as weather, hills, etc. plays a big part in how fast the battery will discharge. It is available as only a front wheel drive vehicle and has a 64.8 kWh battery pack. During my time with the Kona EV, I averaged 14.0 kWh/100km which is on the efficient side with about 270km driven. I was at about 68% left with battery charge but I did mostly hwy driving.
Performance/Handling
Right away I can say there was one thing I did not like about the Kona EV and that is the one pedal mode. When the battery is fully charged, the one pedal mode will not work even if you switch to it. You will notice that it starts to work at about 88% or less which I found to be quite odd. Other than that, I did enjoy the torque as in any EV as it is quick from a start. Driving around the city or hwy is not a problem and even though the Kona is a bit big, it still is easy to maneuver. It feels well planted and feels safe to make quick turns although not comparable to a sport SUV.
Comfort
The 2024 Hyundai Kona EV is bigger than the previous generation and stylish. Because of its bigger size, it is now more spacious and comfortable. I had no issues with driving around for long periods of time as I found the seats to be cushioned well enough. It has 723L of cargo capacity with the rear seat up and 1,803L with the rear seats down and has plenty of leg room and head space for both front and rear. Road noise is also very limited, its almost silent in the cabin when driving so that is also a plus for this Kona EV.
Interior
The interior of the 2024 Kona EV isn’t going to wow you especially because it has a lot of hard plastic on the sides. Not a big issue because it isn’t where your eyes will first see. Other than that, it is a straightforward interior. No issues with using the 12.3-in. touchscreen. I love the fact that it has a mixture of buttons/knobs and touchscreen.
Exterior
As mentioned previously, the Kona is quite stylish and not boring at all. It is equipped with 17-inch wheels. It doesn’t scream futuristic like most EV’s, but you can tell it apart from other crossovers.
Pros/Cons
Overall, the 2024 Kona EV is an upgrade. It is bigger than the previous generation, it is comfortable, and it has a decent electric range. Now the hard part is the pricing because as we know electric vehicles are not cheap and not as quick to charge as well. The starting price for the Preferred trim is $49,074 CAD ($36,675 USD) and for the Ultimate trim it is $53,874 CAD ($41,045 USD).
