Kia has done a great job with updating the styling of its vehicles to appeal to more people. The 2026 Kia Sportage Phev is one of them, with its sharp new look.
Engine/Transmission
The 2026 Kia Sportage Phev is available with a 1.6L Turbo PHEV engine paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and has a 13.8 kW battery. It produces a combined 268 hp and 271 lb-ft of torque. It has an estimated range of about 53 km and is rated for a combined 6.6 L/100km and 2.58 Le/100km. It also comes as standard with all wheel drive which is great for all seasons.
Handling/Performance
The 2026 Sportage drives great as I noticed it absorbs bumps easily and picks up speed quickly especially while in the electric only mode. While driving, it will not feel like a sporty SUV but it is great as it is comfortable. It drives smoothly especially on highways and it also has a quiet cabin for greater comfort. You will notice a bit of body roll when taking a corner too quickly so this Sportage was made more for comfort than performance. For those who have a heavy foot, you will notice that fuel economy isn’t so bad. I averaged a combined 5.9 L/100km so I’m sure those who are mindful of fuel economy can get better numbers.
Comfort/Interior
The interior of the Sportage PHEV is attractive with the option of black or red leather seats here in Canada. This also depends on which trim you choose between 2 options; EX or SX. I found the seats to be comfortable and spacious for both the front and rear. It also has plenty of small item storage throughout the cabin which is great. This makes for a great affordable family SUV as it has plenty of space and has great fuel economy. It is equipped with a 12.3 inch display and comes standard with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Like all touchscreens, it is easy to navigate.
Exterior
It is equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels, panoramic sunroof, power folding mirrors and a Harmon/Kardon sound system if you choose the EX Premium / SX trim. It of course is equipped with a lot more features but these were just to name a few.
Pros/Cons
After driving the Sportage Phev, I realize it is a great daily commuter for those that prefer comfort over sporty drive. I can say right away that its competitors drive more enthusiastically compared to the Sportage. Its electric driving range could also be better but all that comes with an extra price. It has quite a lot of features that can be enticing for some and a lower starting price compared to its competitors. You are not losing much when you think about it. So I still think this Sportage is a great family vehicle if you need the space and great as well for single individuals who want a bigger car without much thought into gas prices. The starting price of the 2026 Kia Sportage Phev is $46,395 CAD ($42,325 USD).
