News: Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio GTA is a Mini 4-door Ferrari

As if the standard Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio wasn’t sporty enough, Alfa Romeo has brought back the GTA badge. The GTA name dates back to the 1960’s and was and the original car was built for racing, as are all sports cars in Italy.

The standard Giulia Quadrifoglio is powered by a 2.9L twin-turbocharged V6 that produces 505 hp. The new GTA ups the power figure to 532 horsepower. But there’s more than just more power, the car has also been lightened by almost 200 lbs. Extensive use of carbon fiber in the hood, roof, drive shaft, front fascia, and wheel arches attribute to the weight shedding. But Alfa’s engineers didn’t stop there as some of the Giulia’s steel components were replaced with aluminum and a titanium Akrapovic exhaust was fitted.

But the GTA is not the only car that Alfa Romeo unveiled. A more track-focused GTAm Giulia was also revealed with a more aggressive aero package which includes a large rear wing, carbon fiber diffuser, and active aero elements that were developed by the Sauber Engineering team; a partner of the Alfa Romeo F1 team.

On the inside, the GTAm is more racecar-like with one piece bucket seats, 6-point harness, and a roll cage in place of the rear seats.

Alfa Romeo hasn’t said much about the performance of the Giulia Quadrifoglio GTA & GTAm apart from the 0-100 km/h time of 3.6 seconds thanks to the extra power, less weight, and launch control system. Alfa Romeo is eyeing the record for production sedan which is currently held by the Jaguar XE SV Project 8 with a time of 7:21.23 on the Nurburgring.

Only 500 examples of the GTA and GTAm will be made for the world.
